On being grateful

“Being deeply loved by someone gives you strength, while loving someone deeply gives you courage.” ― Lao Tzu

After seeking help for my own mental health in 2019, shortly before the first lockdown, I’ve actively been practicing gratitude in my life.

I have many things to be grateful for – my family, my husband, my friends, my home, my health, my business, my career… As well as the general things that we can all feel grateful for – the beauty of the day, the uplifting golden light of unexpected winter sun, the birds coming to the garden even in the midst of winter…

Applying gratitude can be a hard habit to establish at first. If you aren’t used to doing it, then it can seem a little ridiculous. Especially if you feel that there aren’t many things to feel grateful for.

I encourage you to stick with it – even if the things for which you are thankful seem mundane or anodyne. As with everything else, you will get better with practice.
